Formation of the Jena High School FBLA

Jena High School's Business Department organized a chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America in 1967. The charter was granted by the National Business Education Association on December 8, 1967.

Advisers of the chapter were Mrs. Enid Powell and Mrs. Elizabeth Doughty. The Jena High School Principal at the time was Mr. W. L. Bradford.

Charter members were Lanea Allen, Steve Andrews, Betty Butler, Barbara Cupples, Preston Davidson, Margie Hogan, Louise Kennon, Sheila Masters, Phyllis McKeever, Cathy McClure, Jimmy Melder, Gail Otwell, Kathy Paul, Pat Scroggs, Gloria Skrable, Jean Smith, and Roy Taylor.

Chapter officers were President, Janice Francis; Vice President, Margie Frazier; Secretary, Sherry Crooks; Treasurer, Brenda Ethredge; Reporter, Sharon Brooks; Student Council Representative, Randy LeGrande; and Parliamentarian, Billy Hannah.

Major projects for the chapter were assisting local charity organizations in general office work; doing mimeograph work for other departments; preparing mailing lists for the athletic association; assisting the LaSalle Development Board and the LaSalle Parish Retired Teachers; and conducting a series of shorthand and typewriting contests.

Current Jena High School FBLA

We have had many members since the formation of our chapter. We currently have 58 members.  Being one of the largest organizations in our school, FBLA is taken seriously. Our hard work paid off at the 28th Annual District II Leadership Conference held at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. On February 19, 2003, twenty Jena High FBLA members placed in one or more events. Fourteen members placed Superior in their events, while five members won their event overall. With fifteen students going to state competition in March, we hope to do well, and most importantly represent Jena High School FBLA.
